Deus Ex Machina
Synopsis
Before you watch
Deus Ex Machina aired on March 30, 2005, after a four-week break. The title is Latin for god from the machine, the old stage device for a sudden rescue from above. Robert Mandel directed his only Lost episode, and Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof wrote it together.
Where things stand: the discovery underground has been gnawing at Locke and Boone, who have kept it from the rest of the camp. Hurley has his numbers, Rousseau’s maps are in circulation, and the raft is almost ready.
This is Locke’s second episode as the focus, after Walkabout: he and Boone work to open the Hatch while his family history is explored. It is the episode the season has been building towards since All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues. The official magazine returned to it in four different issues.
