Watching Lost together

For showing Lost to a partner, a friend or someone who has never seen it. Nothing here goes past the pilot until your progress does, so you can hand them the link too.

How many a night

The pilot comes in two parts and tells one story, so watch both in the same sitting. After that, two episodes a night is a good rhythm: enough to keep the questions warm, not so many that the second one blurs.

Each episode follows one person on the beach, back into the life they had before the flight. If your first-timer has a favorite, the episodes about that person are a good place to stop for the night and talk.

Most people who stall do it somewhere in the long middle of a season, when the questions pile up faster than the answers. That is normal. Drop to one a night for a while rather than stopping altogether.

Where to stream it

In the US, Lost has been on Hulu for years and joined Netflix in July 2024. Outside the US it usually sits on Disney+. Streaming deals move, so check a service like JustWatch for where it is today.

Watch in the order it aired. Every service lists the episodes that way, and the companion on this site numbers them the same way.

How not to spoil them

The person who has seen it is the risk, not the internet. A knowing look, a laugh at the wrong moment or a promise that the next one is great is enough to tip someone off. When you feel the urge, ask them what they think instead.

A rewatch crew is only as far as its slowest member. Whoever is ahead gets a list of what not to bring up yet, each with something safe to say instead, and can paste in a message before sending it to check for words that would give something away.

Set your own progress on this site to where they are, not where you are. Every page then shows only what they have seen.

Talk after each episode

The watch companion has a page for every episode. Keep it open on a phone while the episode plays for who is who and what to remember from last time. When it ends, mark it watched and it gives you one question to argue about.

The questions are written to be safe for the person who has not seen what comes next, so the one who has can ask them out loud without giving anything away.

For a group night

With more than two of you, pick the episode and deal everyone a bingo card, on a phone or printed. A first-watch card bets only on things the show does over and over, so a first-timer can play from the pilot and nobody has to explain anything.

It is fine to dislike someone

The pilot asks you to size up a plane full of strangers in a hurry, and first impressions are strong. Jack takes charge whether anyone asked him to or not. Sawyer is rude to everyone. Shannon sunbathes while others haul wreckage. Plenty of first-timers decide in the first hour that they cannot stand one of them.

Let them. Arguing about who on the beach is the worst is half the fun of watching with someone, and it is not your job to change their mind. Ask who they would trust and who they would avoid, and keep the answer to compare later.

Watch party nights

Thirteen nights that are better with the whole group on the couch, starting with the pilot: the night that makes or breaks the watch party. Each one shows how many episodes to block out; the reason opens once you reach its first episode.
