Synopsis

Before you watch

What They Died For aired on May 18, 2010, the last episode before the finale. Paul Edwards directed the last of his ten episodes, and Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz and Elizabeth Sarnoff wrote it, the final Lost script for all three.

Where things stand: the last episode told the origin story of the Island’s oldest conflict. Before that, the escape on the submarine ended in devastating losses. The groups have come together for the endgame, and the flash-sideways has been drawing familiar people towards each other all season.

Jacob explains why they were chosen, and a new protector is named. Six people share the centre. The official magazine covered a Los Angeles farewell concert, Lost Live, where this episode had an early screening for fans. After this, only the two-part finale remains, so if you have been spacing episodes out, now is the time to clear a weekend.
