Where things stand: opposing forces have kept Jin and Sun apart, and Widmore has brought a package to the Island. Richard Alpert’s origin has been told, and the Man in Black and the people around him are still gathering strength.
This is Desmond’s episode: he is put through a massive electromagnetic event, while something awakens in the flash-sideways. Desmond has been at the centre of some of the show’s most loved hours since he first turned up in the second season, so expectations were high.
