LA X (Part 1)

Synopsis

Before you watch

LA X (Part 1) opened the final season on February 2, 2010, the first hour of a two-hour premiere. The show had known its end date since 2007, when ABC and the producers agreed to finish after six seasons, so every episode from here was written knowing exactly how many were left.

Where things stand: the fifth season ended on a two-part finale that ran to an explosive conclusion, with several shocks in quick succession. Jacob was seen for the first time, and Locke had taken charge of the Others. The audience then waited almost nine months to find out what came next.

Jack Bender directed, as he did both parts of the premiere, and Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wrote it. All you get going in is this much: two realities seem to exist at once. The backstory is spread across eight people at the centre, so expect an ensemble hour. Watch both parts back to back, the way they first aired.
