Synopsis

Before you watch

The Shape of Things to Come aired on April 24, 2008, after a five-week break, and is the first episode made after the writers’ strike ended. Jack Bender directed, and Brian K. Vaughan wrote it with Drew Goddard. It is Goddard’s ninth and last Lost script.

Where things stand: the identity of Ben’s spy on the freighter is out, along with how that person got there. Locke is still running the Barracks, and the survivors are still split into two camps over the freighter people.

The setup is blunt: the mercenaries attack the Barracks, and Ben’s activities off the Island are revealed. It is Ben’s first episode as the focus since The Man Behind the Curtain told his origin on the Island, so this is the show adding a new chapter to that story. The title borrows from the H.G. Wells novel about the future.
