What Kate Does aired on February 9, 2010. Paul Edwards directed, and Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz wrote it, the pair who had been writing for the show together since Born to Run in the first season.

Where things stand: the two-hour premiere showed two realities that seem to exist at once. On the Island, the survivors have reached the Temple, and Sayid has been given a second chance. Everyone is still taking in the end of the last season.

This is Kate’s episode: she slips out of the Temple to go after Sawyer, while in the flash-sideways she helps Claire. It is the first episode to put the name flash-sideways on the second reality, the term the season uses from here on. The official magazine’s final-season yearbook visited the set while a scene for this episode was being reshot on the Temple pool set at the Diamond Head studios.
