The Beginning of the End

Synopsis

Before you watch

The Beginning of the End aired on January 31, 2008, eight months after the third season ended. It opened a season made in the middle of the 2007 to 2008 Hollywood writers’ strike, which cut the year short. Jack Bender directed, and Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof wrote it.

Where things stand: the survivors made their stand against the Others, Charlie went into the Looking Glass, and the Season 3 finale delivered what is often called the show’s biggest twist. A beloved character made the ultimate sacrifice. Before all that, Desmond had a vision of a parachutist arriving on the Island.

The survivors split into two camps over whether to trust the people on the freighter. It is Hurley’s hour, and he has not been at the centre for a while. Evangeline Lilly and Jorge Garcia recorded the DVD commentary for this one together. Give the opening minutes your full attention.
