Adrift

Adrift aired on September 28, 2005. Stephen Williams directed, and Steven Maeda wrote it with Leonard Dick, in the first of Maeda’s four scripts for the show.

Where things stand: the Hatch has been explored, and someone the viewer has seen before turned up inside it. Out on the water, the raft that launched at the end of the first season ran into trouble, and the people on board have not been heard from since.

This hour belongs to Michael and Sawyer, the first time the two of them have shared the focus. The setup is plain: the raft survivors struggle to stay alive at sea. The official magazine later explained how the crew shot sequences out on the open ocean with only a handful of digital effects. Expect a smaller, harder episode than the premiere. Most of it is two men who do not like each other, a long way from land.
