Pilot (Part 2)
Synopsis
Before you watch
Pilot (Part 2) aired a week after the first half, on September 29, 2004. The pilot was conceived as one long story and split in two for broadcast, so treat this as the second hour of the same film rather than a new episode.
Where things stand: the survivors of the crash are on the beach, hurt, frightened and waiting for a rescue that has not come. Jack, Kate and Charlie have all stepped forward in their own ways, and the Island has already shown it is stranger than it looks.
J.J. Abrams directed again, and this is the last episode he directed for the series. He and Damon Lindelof share the writing credit. After this the show settles into the shape it keeps for most of its run: life on the Island, with one person’s backstory threaded through each hour. The beach at Mokulēʻia is still standing in for the crash site, wreckage and all.
