Egyptian Mythology Connections

Ok, I've been doing a little research on Egyptian mythology so I thought I'd share. This might be long, sorry. After trying and trying on my own to figure out who the statue represented, I finally discovered that ABC confirmed that the statue is Taweret. She's a bit complicated, but four things stick out.

First, she was a protector of pregnancy. Her statue is now destroyed and successful pregnancies among non-815ers don't occur. Hmm.

Second, she was the wife of the evil Apep. Apep was the god of darkness and chaos, and was sometimes a very large snake (or maybe just a long snake-like trail of smoke?) with a head of flint (a black rock). He would roar from the underworld and cause rumbling. It was said that he was trapped in the underworld after Ra took over the island, er, Egypt. Trapped unless Ben lets him out I guess.

Third, Taweret was also friendly with Sobek, a god who repaired evil that was done. Sobek became Sobek-Ra (merged with Ra). Ra and Apep were enemies. Apep was always trying to kill Ra. He must have always been searching for that loophole.

Fourth, she was ALSO friendly with Set. Set was Ra's right hand guy. He protected Ra, and fought Apep. He also fought Horus (Goodspeed?), and sometimes went by the name Richard Alpert. When the Egypt was divided in two, Horus and Set fought. (Island divided, sides led by Richard and Horace). I read somewhere also that Set led a whole group of others that also defended Ra, but I couldn't find the source again.

Ok, so my theory is Jacob = Sobek-Ra, Esau = Smokey/Apep, Richard = Set. When I googled these gods' names with "lost" I discovered I am definitely not alone, which was kind of a bummer, because it seemed like it was old news, but good, because it means I'm not way out in left field. So, I think Jacob visiting the 815ers had something to do with repairing evil that was done.

I also wanted to know what the Greek on the tapestry was. The translation of the top row is, "May heaven grant you in all things your heart's desire." Odysseus said it to Nausicaa in the Odyssey. There's a middle line that says, "May the gods grant you happiness." The bottom line hasn't been fully revealed but probably says, "Only the dead have seen the end of war." Also in the Odyssey. I haven't been down that rabbit trail yet, but obviously, Odysseus visited an island or two and saw some strange things. I still need to take another look at that tapestry and see if I can google enough to figure out what the pictures represent.

One more thought. What's this mix of Greek and Egyptian? I'm sticking with my original theory, Atlantis. It has ties to Greece and Egypt. I know that's been a theory out there for a long time, but I haven't heard of Darlton denying it.

Good call Dirk, on the red herring thing, awesome! My guess about its meaning is that the whole Ben / Widmore thing isn't the real feud, they are small potatoes. Just a guess.

Revelation! *UPDATED*

It just occurred to me that it wasn't future Locke that told past Locke (via Richard) that he had to die! It was Jacob's enemy as Locke! So I'm def thinking (big fat duh) as soon as Christian's body landed on Lost island, Jacob's enemy took Christian's form and hid his body (just like he did with Locke). So quite obviously, this entire time, it has been Jacob's enemy parading around as ghosty Christian Shepard, until he found a new body…Locke's!

I just blew my own mind.

So now it's time to go back and watch the entire series, knowing that every time we see Christian (after real Christian's passing) he is really Jacob's enemy, bent on twisting events to lead to Jacob's demise!!!!!!

*UPDATED*

Furthermore, Jacob's enemy has clearly been playing Richard (or Richard is secretly working for him) because it was Richard who gave Locke the information on Sawyer, which lead to his father's death and Locke's ascent to leader. This chain of events lead to Locke's direct access to Jacob and ultimately Jacob's death.

Also, from Lostpedia:

Richard Alpert gave Locke a compass, instructing him to give it back to him the next time Locke saw him. ("Because You Left") When Locke time traveled to 1954, he gave the compass to Richard in order to prove he was from the future. ("Jughead") In 2007, the individual posing as Locke told Richard to give the compass to Locke, creating a time loop.

Season Finale: Source of Endless Discussion

The finale is blowing up our blog a bit with some seriously great comments. I just want to remind you all that you're definitely invited to make actual posts. Quite honestly, some of your comments are too good for just comments!

Let me know if you're interested in posting and I'll send you an invite to be a contributor.

I think the finale discussion could keep us afloat and caring about this show for 8 whole months!

Back to the Future?

Okay so here's my theory...

Is it possible that some of the events that have taken place in the past and future as we understand it are supposed to take place no matter the circumstances surrounding it? For example in Back to the Future, at the beginning, Marty lives with his parents and siblings, but his dad is a weiner and Biff is the bad guy from their childhood. Then Marty goes to the past and messes everything up.

Marty accidentaly meets his mom and dad and almost causes them to not meet, go to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, kiss, get married, and make babies. However, he helps his dad get the courage to stand up to Biff and ask his mom to the dance. Just as Marty's hand starts to disapear during a solo on stage, they kiss and everything starts to come back again.
THEN, Marty goes back to the future and not only is everything back the way it was, but Marty has an awesome car, his dad grows a pair, and Biff is their cleaning lady. So, all this to say, is it possible that there are somethings that are "just meant to be?"

In the case of Chang's hand. Is it possible that him loosing his hand could serve another purpose other than one that we already knew? Maybe in some way, the hand means more than we even understood previously, in the future (read again for clarity)? Like Marty's parents kissing? Is it possible that everything could be different and still the same? What would be the same and what would be different?

Who is Jacob's Enemy?

I just wanted to say, on the record, I believe the man who essentially killed Jacob, is Alvar Hanso. That is all.

One More Thing…

I freaking loved that the episode ended in white!!! So, what better time to switch our blog to off-season white?!

Recap: The Incident

Where do I begin? Great finale.

Did It Work?
Yes, let's see our options:

A) No it didn't work. The bomb went off and everything stayed the same, meaning Jules, Jack, Sawyer, Kate and company are a powdered mixture floating in the ocean. Season 6 will be all about Rose and Bernard's last 3 years living in a shack in the jungle.

B) Yes, of course it worked. Otherwise, the main characters are dead and that's ridiculous.

C) No, it didn't work. The white flash we saw was a reaction of the massive energy being released, sending our peops on another time traveling journey.

Small and Significant
Miles came out of left as tonight's voice of reason. Reminding our castaways that they could be playing right into time's brutal hands. Perhaps they were unfolding everything that already happened anyway. Everything that always transpired. I think he might've been right, based on the fact that his father, PF Chang, appears to have lost his hand, due to the occurrences they were causing. As we know, Chang had a missing hand in the videos we've seen, proving that things are on track as they've always been. Thought?

Love is the Bomb
Or is it? Did anyone think that the quad o' love's reasons for blowing up the island were less than noble? Jack wanted to potentially blow up the island and kill a bunch of people all for a chance to erase his shoddy past with Kate? Tabula rasa?! Jules wants to do the same, all so she can "not lose" Sawyer. Hey, guys, I thought you were heroic. Could the writers have sewn in a little bit more about wanting to start over because their friends died and weren't supposed to? Ugh. All so they could make googly eyes at each other. They're getting all Eternal Sunshine on us!

Un-Locked
So, Locke is not Locke. Huh? Since when could you change yourself into someone else? What in the eff is going on there. I'm not tracking with that one. So the guy on the beach (credited on imdb as Man #2, actor's name is Titus Welliver) pulled some tricks, found some loop hole to some law existing preventing him from killing Jacob and got Ben to off him? Woah. I need to think on that one.

JACOB REVEALED
Freaking finally. So Jacob only made it through one episode. Pretty trippy that he visited both Kate and Sawyer in their youth and Sayid, Sun, Jin, Locke and Hurley later in life. All just amazing. Blowing my mind again and again. I love that he gave them gifts, and that Kates was a NKOTB lunch box. I love this show. Shocking and yet not. We all knew Jacob had to be able to do some amazing things. I guess the incredible thing was to simply find out that he does indeed exist. So many metaphors can be drawn. Ah.

I'm so tired. In honor of a 2 part episode, I'll post part 2 of my recap tomorrow. It will be more organized.

Showdown

James tipped me off to this amazingly hilarious thing:

From Junk

Tonight's Episode: The Incident, Parts 1 and 2

R U FREAKING READY?!

"The Incident," Parts 1 & 2 - Jack's decision to put a plan in action in order to set things right on the island is met with some strong resistance by those close to him, and Locke assigns Ben a difficult task, on the season finale of "Lost," WEDNESDAY, MAY 13 (9:00-11:00 p.m.).

Jacky boy is taking the reigns again! LOCKE vs. JACK is looking to be back in action. I'm supposing this is the birth of the big skirmish they've been referring to for ages!!! It's on like black smoke baby!

Recap called: Lost: A Journey in Time at 8pm (for those of you who aren't totally consumed by this show and like to ask questions that have actually already been answered).

So, 3 solid hours of awesome, shortly followed by 9 months of nothingness. I hate the way this show toys with my emotions! A freaking human life can be created in the time they make us wait for them!

Regarding Libby…

My pal, Justin Riner, had the magnificent opportunity to attend an event last night featuring none other than Damon freaking Lindelof (the less hairy half of Darlton). Justin relayed this to me, regarding the previously mentioned issue of Libby (and other tales) never reaching a satisfying completion:

Last night, Damon said basically that in both cases- Eko and Libby- it came down to the actor's lack of interest in continuing and thusly, drove possible plots into the ground. He said he'd hate to hire another actress to play Libby and is trying to find ways to, verbally, tell her story without getting lame

To which I say, 'how lame can you be?'. What kind of idiot has no interest in continuing on Lost? Thanks for nothing Cynthia Watros and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, you guys suck. Thanks for real to Justin for sharing. Justin didn't get a photo with Damon because he didn't want to be too fan boy, otherwise, I would post that too. For the record I would go crazy fan girl for Damon or Carlton.

Promo: The Incident

In case you missed the tail end of Lost last night, here is the promo for next week's 2-hour finale, The Incident (plus an hour recap at 8pm).

When Lost and The Office Colide

Magic happens. Rainn Wilson just tweeted this recording of him imitating the Lost announcer (AKA Carlton Cuse).

Recap: Follow the Leader

The end is near, my friends. After a dangerously close call of totally missing tonight's episode, we managed to scrounge up a decent stream of it online. Yay.

So this is the second-to-last episode of the season. Last year at this time we feared for the lives of castaways at the overgrown, beefcake hands of Keamy, while we watched the Oceanic 6 get the heck out of dodge. So much has changed. Enter time travel, a heaping dose of Richard Alpert, the foyer to Smokey's place, and "the constant" in every season of Lost: overwhelming confusion— and you have season 5 thus far. This episode was an excellent ramp into the finale. I was pumped, there were a number gasps and screeches, so enough of this, let's recap, shall we?

Yeah, but Seriously, We're From the Future
I, for one, am really glad that all the groovy scientists and mercenaries in the 70's are open-minded, forward thinkers. When someone says "Yes, I am from the future" and their only proof is that they can't produce their birth year and the name of the current president, that's apparently proof enough, you are who you say you are. Whether you're Dr. Chang or Eloise Hawking, you believe it. Also, what a fascinating and stark contrast…

Freighties Revisited
Both Faraday and Miles traveled to the 70's and discovered the truth about their parents. Faraday, unfortunately received the key to his mother's strange behavior— she apparently knew all along that one day, he would be killed by a younger version of her. Miles got quite the opposite news, his father, Chang, whom he and his mother believed to be a horrible deserter, was in fact (fuzzy moment) doing all he could to save their lives. From there, I wonder if Faraday was born on the island, if so, that would mean 3/4 freighties were island babies. And where is that pesky Frank Lapidus, anyway?

Freckles or Sun Spots?
Kate is slowly slipping into "ruin everything for everyone" mode again. Just when you thought it was safe in the water, good ol' freckles drops in on your submarine of happiness. Poor Jules! I don't quite know why, but I desparately want Sawyer and Juliet to make it. After Sawyer's tough guy routine went all mushykins when Phil (creepy) punched Juliet, c'mon!! Oh and Juliet's face when Kate climbed into the sub, definitely in the top 10 facial moments of Lost. I guess Kate's quest to find Aaron's mom, Claire is officially on the backburner?

Tunnels
Oh now there are tunnels too? Mysterious, underground hatches could never be enough for Lost, throw another layer on that bad boy and you have a system of tunnels, litered with anceint hieroglyphs no doubt! I'm glad all the characters have fantastic lung capacity. That whole swimming underwater to a secret tunnel was nothing shy of awesome. Surely they're in Smokey's territory now. It's about to get downright Indiana Jones in there. Can you picture Sayid uttering the phrase "It's Dr. Shepard, dollface"? I can.

Locke Down
I must say, I'm quite fond of John's, no nonsense policy. It's like he's ripping massive holes in the Lost shrouds of mystery. He's not waiting to get answers in season 6, he wants his answers now AND he's taking everyone with him. No BS here folks. Ben, you have fun trying to pit everyone against each, Locke will be busy getting answers. Also, how rad was it when we got to see the other side of the time flash when Locke was shot in the leg?!

Jacob's Going Down?
Do you really think Locke is going to try to kill Jacob? What could this mean? Is his privvy to the real dish on Jacob? What could he know? Is this all a big mind-game for Ben? I need to know!

Ben, Still Lying
In true Ben fashion, we had the privelege of witnessing his trickery. He told Richard that he killed Locke because he could be trouble, meanwhile, he's held that he only killed Locke because he had to, because it was part of the grand plan.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Dare they? Would they really erase it all (like in my favorite movie, the aforementioned Eternal Sunshine)? Will we get to see the whole season 1 cast in their glory? Will they retain any memories, would they know each other and everything that had happened? Will they follow all of Faraday's instructions, rewind back to 815 and then have time correct them, and take the plane down some other way? Question after question!!

I'm tired and I hope the finale is packed with action, adventure, surprises and of course, answers!

So, How Is It?

I'm at Alex and Natalee's and their satellite wasn't working, so now we're trying to find bootleg HD streams of "Follow the Leader". I'm going to cry. ALEX JUST DID IT!!! DON'T TELL THE AUTHORITIES. See you suckers in an hour for recap.

Tonight's Episode: Follow the Leader

Jack and Kate find themselves at odds over the direction to take to save their fellow island survivors, Locke further solidifies his stance as leader of "The Others," and Sawyer and Juliet come under scrutiny from the Dharma Initiative.

Guys, this is the second to last episode of the season (well, technically third to last, considering the finale is 2 hours) of the second to last season! What will I do with myself?!

Super Excellent Faraday, Charlie Theory

I just read a brilliant recap/theory article. Like woah.

Brilliant.

Not Cool Darlton. Not Cool at all.

Apparently we'll never know the story of Libby or other loose ends. I've heard them say that they would leave a few strands unaccounted for, but Libby?! How can you show her 3 times, with 3 different hair colors in vastly different situations (one being a mental institution) and not tell us what is going on?!

This better be an awesome trick. She better be a crazy Dharma/Hanson agent who was following someone through time, OR ELSE!
