Dre, I love you and hate to do this to you but…
IT'S TIME TRAVEL AND IT'S DA BOMB. (And you know it. For it is time travel that will likely allow your beloved Locke to not be the ultra dead fo-eva Jeremy Bentham.)
Brace yourselves, here comes the violet light… I give you a lawstsome flashback.
Bend It Like Desmond
And a vintage lawstsome graphic:
(PS Our entire February 2008 archive has just become very interesting. Did I go back in time and tell myself what happened, or what?!)

The problem with invoking time travel is that it's wholly unoriginal. :) All of the great paradoxes associated with it have been discussed to death at both the higher levels and in freshmen intro to philosophy classes, not to mention throughout history as far back as we have written records.
Ok, that last part I just made up. But you get the point. I know we're supposed to be able to suspend belief for fiction, and dive into the story and enjoy the experience -- and I do, I do.. Lost is the shizzle, and all that. But damnit Gina, time travel is untenable. Adherents have misunderstood the science. I can say that not because I understand the science, but because we can know that it's impossible philosophically. But that's a long conversation.
Nevertheless, the show is awesome, and I'm glad it's back on again. And I am a little disappointed that they did what everyone expected and invoked time travel but hey, I'm hopeful they've thought of some way to make the old paradoxes more interesting. Dre, don't let Jonna rub it in your face too much.
And for all you Christians interested in time, theories of time, and how God relates, here is a really cool article by William Lane Craig about it: http://www.leaderu.com/offices/billcraig/docs/eternity.html
1. Maybe time travel has been done to death, however I think the way they've presented it is brilliant. They waited 4 whole years to solidify this idea. I mean you'd never know there was time travel involved in the first two seasons, and in 3 and 4, it was only really a theory by severe Lost nerds. Also, I think a lot of the time travel references people are citing are from cult films and books, to be fair, Lost is very mainstream, so I think it's pretty new to a large portion of their audience.
2. You are wrong, time travel is completely possible. I have time traveled. I was born in the year 2037 and I came back just to watch Lost and write this blog.
3. I will read that article.
1. my brain hurts after reading that.
2. this season is going to be awesome!
Ok, I'll be the "non-nerd" here and comment about Sawyer not having a shirt on for the entire first hour. My husband kept trying to cover my eyes...and was yelling at the TV, "Why doesn't he have a shirt on?!!!" This was obviously a very carefully thought through costume decision that probably drew in some non-LOST female viewers.
On subject now...I'm not unhappy with the time travel premise. It's better than ALIENS!!! But that could still pop up too.
Haha, Paul Eaton came in today and he hasn't seen the premiere yet and he asked if the island is a giant spaceship. You guys could be on to something.
THANK YOU SIMON!
